Round 2
U16s HOME Vs West Bentleigh LOST 9/98 Vs 7/207
Day 1
Winning the toss against cross-town rivals West Bentleigh and electing to bat, Rohan Wilson and Dillon Williams got the boys off to solid start facing a very handy attack. Ryan Waites came in at 'third-drop' and immediately took to the Bulldogs' attack, smashing a very aggressive 22. Charlie Davidson looked very comfortable at the crease but a loss of concentration three balls after teas saw him depart for a classy 22. Tommy Purcell was also in good form, compiling a well-made 17, but some very good bowling from there restricted the score to just 98. Fired-up to atone with the ball, Zander Elkins sent a message to the whole competition with an opening spell that would have had Longmuir players jumping around the crease. Unlucky not to take several wickets, the 'Commander' had the visitors ducking, diving, edging and praying in a spell billowing plenty of 'smoke'. Rohan and Nathan Barlas were also unlucky not to grab a few poles, but it was Charlie who cashed in on the rattled batsman, claiming two wickets just before stumps. If the boys keep up this brilliant bowling and hold their catches, a win should be on the cards.
Day 2
It was always going to be an uphill battle defending just 98 and having two short in the field and that's what it proved to be in the round two clash with West Bentleigh. After giving the visitors a fright late on day one, Zander and Charlie found their line quickly, but unfortunately, the edges keep finding gaps that made Centenary feel like a ground the size of the MCG. Charlie eventually made a breakthrough with his partner in crime Zander taking a smart catch. Zander finally got some reward for his tireless work, clean bowling the visitor's top scorer. All the bowlers persisted in the tough conditions; Ollie Mulvogue was particularly impressive with a spell that saw him on a hat-trick at one stage. Although they didn't get the win, Hugo, Paddy and all the parents were extremely proud of the boys. Starting the season with a win and a loss, a two-day assignment against Moorabbin at Caulfield Parks awaits.

U14B North AWAY Vs Hampton WON 10/95 Vs 10/71
Playing on a ground that looked more like a field of dandelions the boys lost the toss and were sent into bat. The pitch was also well past its use by date and made the going tough. Playing 1 short and with the loss of the top order (Aaron Swann 19), the target set was not going to be high – but the tail end wagged a little adding 34 runs to set a target of 95. (Lucas Daff 15). The good news is that the council did not fix the pitch in between innings – so the boys came out into the field with confidence.
Their 2 openers were playing it safe with the first 6 overs only going for 5 runs thanks to some very tight bowling by Connor & Daffy. The change brought Jacko and our 1st wicket. A partnership of 35 runs followed but by tea we had them 4/56. It took our boys 8 overs to bowl them all out for 71.
Just to put it in perspective, we took 8 wickets for 30 runs! Everyone had a bowl... and the wickets were shared around as well. Ned 1/4, Jacko 1/12, Daniel 1/6, Azza 2/4, Oli 2/8 & Daffy 3/3. Connor bowled beautifully 0/4 off 6 overs including 3 maidens and deserved at least 1 wicket. Dan was great behind the stumps especially to a surface that was well....crap. The boys (Connor & Azza S) captained the side very well, and their bowlers didn't let them down. Couple of special mentions...
⭐Oli's 2 wickets in his first over...priceless! Well done Ol!!
⭐ Ned, I mean Zak, I mean Ned's attempted diving catch at point... nearly knocked himself out, but tough as nails this kid! What a champ, got back up, kept playing, took another great catch and a wicket! The smile was AMAZING! Well done Ned!
⭐Daffy's frwee for frwee off 5! 1 wicket maiden, and another 2 wicket over! Sensational!
Next Round sees us in our first home game Vs Brighton over cup weekend. Well done lads!
U14B Central HOME Vs Cluden LOST 9/97 Vs 9/196
At the start of the game we lost the toss and ended up fielding first. After about 5 overs the first wicket fell. Josh picked up a scalp with James taking a good catch. The very next ball the exact same thing happened again. After James got a third catch the opponents started to slow down. Nearing the end of the innings Jake took a classic catch to dispatch yet another batter. In the end, Cluden scored 9/196. Nice work Sam Haywood. and James for taking three catches each and good job Josh, Kane and Jake for taking 2 wickets each. With batting James scored a quickfire 17 and Jake with 12. Good partnerships by Arjun and Jake as well as Flynn and James. Special mention Vincent, playing in his first game ever. Good job Josh with your late order hitting.

U12B AWAY Vs WPCC WON 3/154 Vs 4/122
U12Bs had a good fighting win in Round 2 vs Washington Park Sharks. Week 1 set the game in the balance with both teams going wicketless from their 20 overs (BUCC 0/60 & WP 0/73). Monty (Noah Montgomery 30*) and Noodles (Ned Cannington 19*) put on a disciplined 50-run opening partnership to set our innings up well. Our bowlers were finding some great areas, toiling on a good line and length and our fielding in the second week in particular, really tightened the screws on the Washington innings. The best of our bowlers were Jordan “Air” Palermo 2/13 (4 overs), Archie “Baumy” Baum snagged 1/13 (4) and Aiden “Aidos” Ferwerda bowled a superb 0/4 (4) keeping Washington Park to a total of 122. In their second dig the boys batted positively and took control of the game. Max “Knuckles” Matthews lead the way with a strong 31* followed by Lewis “Richo” Richardson who carved out 21*... we finished the game 3-154 to win by 32 runs

U12C HOME Vs South Melbourne WON 6/79 Vs 10/75
For our second game of the season, we faced the South Melbourne bloods at home over two weeks. Week 2 was a tough one for us, two players down and strong winds, but we triumphed in the end: they were all out for 75, whereas we were 6/76. Tom D'Zilva was the only one not out (Jenson and Kiedis Burmeister did not play game 2B).
Jonathan took two wickets: he clean bowled one player, and then took another wicket with Ryan taking an excellent wicket keepers catch. Hugo then followed on, knocking the bails off (nearly to the boundary) and then took off the stumps of another player. Alasdair also took a wicket, clean bowling the opposition player.
Tom D'Zilva played an excellent game and showed how he is developing, and was the last one standing in batting, even though he was so nervous at the start. Joshie P had another great game, staying firm with the bat and also bowling excellent line and length. He hit the only 4 for the session, with another stellar batting performance. Oscar was in the wars, copping a ball to the fingers and then one to the kneecap but he stayed strong and kept bowling.
The kids learned a lot about not taking a lead for granted, as it only takes one good over to win a game. Well done team - a great win!

U12D3 HOME Vs Elsternwick WON 1/120 Vs 6/87
Great batting by Dean 23*, and a good job by Charlie scoring 12* together with seven retirees saw the side reach their target with ease. The bowling innings was also strong – with highlights of Will (1/9) collecting his first wicket helped by an amazing catch by Eamon. Kohen (1/9) also took his first wicket in the innings. Other wicket takers included Charlie (1/4), Ryan (1/7) and Eamon (1/16). A mix up with the oppositions batting brought a run-out. Nice work by Kohen and Ryan made this possible run-out possible.

U12D4 AWAY Vs McKinnon Drawn Match – Rain interruption Week 2
Unfortunately – the U12D4 side didn’t get to complete their Round 2 fixture and match was drawn due to bad weather – scores were poised at BUCC 4/28 & McKinnon 4/72 after the 15. Maybe the rain saved us – or maybe the boys would have come out stronger on day 2 – we will never know – but with a couple of players out – we were happy to take 1 point and come back bigger an better next week!
Rookies AWAY Vs Le Page WON 1/105 Vs 6/71
Another impressive win by the rookies sees these lion cubs undefeated after 3 games.
Bowling first they claimed LePage 6 wickets with accurate bowling and brilliant fielding.
The most pleasing part of the game was our batting, losing only 1 wicket in our 20 overs while scoring 62 runs of the bat. This indicates that the boys are starting to value their wicket. The final score of 105-71 was a great result for a team improving every week

Round 2 20/10/19 AWAY Vs Kingston Heath LOST 6/56 Vs 3/100
4 of our 5 girls in this side traveled to Mordialloc to take on Kingston Heath. Winning the toss, we elected to bat. Unfortunately, things did not go to plan with the side finishing at 6/56. The girls, however, went to their work in the field and to their credit bowled pretty tightly, with Paige being the only dual wicket taker with 2/7 off 2. Well done Paige! This team is still bonding and will continue to improve with each outing!
Round 3 27/10/19 AWAY Vs Malvern/Tooronga WON 2/94 Vs 3/78
Our combined U16 side with WPCC had their first win on the season in this round defeating Malvern-Tooronga away. YAY team! The opposition won the toss and elected to bowl first.
In our batting innings – our girls contributed over half the runs – with Darby being highest scorer (23 – including 4 boundaries), Sophie (13* - including 2 boundaries) Emily (7*) & Erin (5*).
Our girls were also well amongst it in the field taking 2 of the 3 wickets for the day with all girls bowling tightly - Erin (1/16) & Emily (1/7)
So proud of these girls, and how far they have come from our humble beginnings just 2 seasons ago!
Upcoming round before next wrap include our first home game at Centenary on Sunday 10/9 Vs Parkdale – so uniting – get around these girls performing on our home turf!
Wednesday
AGCC 13U HOME Vs Toorak-Prahran Wednesday 23/10/19
On a beautiful afternoon for cricket, the girls ventured out onto Centenary Park in their first match for 2019. Jess and Anna drew the short straws and had to open the innings. It turned out they had little to worry about, with both playing out their max 20 balls, Jess unlucky to be bowled for 8. Anna was top scorer on 17. The rest of the team batted well and with no more lost wickets, our final score was 1/53.
We returned to the field eager to bowl and field well. Sasha claimed the first wicket (1/16), caught by wicket keeper Jess. The team bowled well, and Jess snared the second wicket (1/7). Despite some tidy bowling from Avani (0/5), Toorak-Prahran were too good and passed our score to finish 2/93. Well done Jess (captain) and Rachel on playing their first games for BUCC.
Looking forward to the season ahead, Go Lionesses. Apologies our photo is missing 1 player Jess!
