Statement from Bentleigh Uniting Cricket Club

ree

The Bentleigh Uniting Cricket Club is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Ben Austin, a 17-year-old player from the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club, following an accident at training earlier this week.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ben’s family, friends, teammates, and everyone in the cricket community who are mourning this heartbreaking loss. Ben was a talented young cricketer with a bright future, and his passing has touched many across Victorian cricket.

We also wish to express our thoughts and support for Ben’s teammate who was with him at the time of the accident, and for everyone at Ferntree Gully Cricket Club during this incredibly difficult time.

As a club, we recognise that this tragedy has affected many people across the wider cricket family, including some of our own junior players who knew the Austin family personally. We want our players and families to know that support is available, and we encourage anyone who needs to talk or seek help to reach out to their coach, team manager, or a committee member.

The entire Bentleigh Uniting community stands together in offering our deepest sympathy and strength to the Austin family and all those impacted.

Rest in peace, Ben.
