Round Eight Recap 2018/19

Round Report: Round 8 - Week 1

Longmuir

After winning the toss against Le Page and electing to bat, it couldn't have started much worse for the boys, losing Hugo, Patrick and Max before the score reached 10😬Janszy, Trenta, Cal and Shorty steadied the ship by each making a score in the 20s, but in the end, it was a day to forget, with an overall score of 126 not up to their usual high standards. In return, the hosts are 1/99.

Quiney

Sent in by West Bentleigh, the 2s overcame the early loss of young gun Campbell to push the score along to 54 before a dogged Mark was dismissed for 10. Harry blasted to 32 off the back for six stunning boundaries, while old stager 'Dirty' Manakis just keeps turning out the runs with a well-compiled 49. Handy knocks of 40 from skipper 'PD' and 20 from Andrew also kept the scoreboard ticking over. Some filthy slogging at the end from Mason helped the boys make a defendable 199 at the completion of their allotted overs.

Thirds

With their inspirational skipper, Dave Bregazzi, still nursing a dodgy 'string, the boys were asked to bowl by the Cavaliers and did a great job restricting the hosts to a score of just 142. Brent did all the heavy lifting with 3/46 off 14 overs, while Cameron (1/12), Badger (2/26) and Gayan (2/15) were also amongst the wickets. With 19 overs to bat, Ethan opened up with his father Peter but fell early. Pete showed no signs of the bill shock he received after taking his family on an around-the-world vacation, finishing undefeated on 32. With just 86 runs needed for victory, the boys will be looking to lock in a finals sport.

Fourths

After losing the toss and asked to bowl, Ryan Davo pathetically succumbed to his latest injury in just the second over, so it was left to Vinod and Josh to put a few dints in Washington Park's batting line up. With the visitors seeing off the initial onslaught, it was left to Brucey (1/16) to make the opening breakthrough. Wiley veteran Yogie Bera was as dangerous as ever, claiming two important scalps, but it was his great mate VB who stole the show once again. After claiming three wickets in the thirds last game, the swing king was at his devastating best, picking up a hattrick on his way to the remarkable figures of 6/31 off 17.4 masterful overs. If the boys can chase down 177, they can expect to play finals.
