Congratulations Craig Short and Malin Silva on being part of Longmuir Team of the Year!

In the Longmuir Shield, two stars have been unwavering in their commitment to Bentleigh Uniting 1’s cause: Malin Silva and Craig Short. The pair’s inclusion in the team of the year speaks volumes of their indelible impact.

Round 1: Against Elwood 1, it was a tale of similar fortunes for the duo. While Short’s brief stint at the crease yielded a modest 7 runs, Silva’s bowling failed to claim a wicket despite a disciplined 8-over spell.

Round 2: They faced Bentleigh ANA 1, where both players shone with the bat. Short contributed a stable 20 runs, while Silva’s dazzling 57 was a testament to his prowess, though both couldn’t prevent a narrow defeat in a high-scoring affair.

Round 3: As the competition thickened against Brighton Union 1, Short led by example, crafting a crucial 43 runs. Silva, meanwhile, delivered a masterclass in bowling, decimating the opposition’s lineup with a 7-wicket haul that set up a thrilling victory on the first innings.

Round 4: Versus Kingston Heath 1, Short’s unbeaten 60 underpinned a robust total, and Silva supported well with three important scalps.

Round 6: In a reversal of fortunes, Silva’s three wickets and Short’s fighting 56 couldn’t forestall an away defeat to East Sandringham 1, though their efforts were commendable.

Round 7: They locked horns with Le Page Park 1, and while Short’s 24 off 80 balls showcased his gritty determination, Silva’s bowling struggled to make an impact, managing only one wicket in a high-scoring duel.

Round 9: Amidst a challenging away fixture at Elwood 1, Silva’s bowling may not have taken wickets, but it was Short’s patient 32 off 68 that shone on the day.

Round 10: As they squared off against Brighton Union 1, it was a game of fine margins. Silva’s economical bowling snagged a crucial wicket, while Short faced the disappointment of a golden duck, a rare blip in an otherwise stellar season.

Round 11: Facing Le Page Park 1, Silva’s impressive 4-wicket haul was the talk of the town, a performance that demonstrated his lethal edge. Short, contributing a steady 13, showed the resilience that makes him a captain.

Round 12: CHAG 1 felt the brunt of Silva’s prowess as he clinched three wickets in a closely contested affair, with Short unfortunately run out before he could make his mark.

Round 13: In a low-scoring thriller against Kingston Heath 1, Silva’s outstanding 6-wicket haul was pivotal in edging out a victory by the narrowest of margins. Short’s gritty 18 off 65 balls showcased his temperament in tense situations.

Round 14: Against Bentleigh ANA 1, Silva continued his dominant form with 5 wickets, furthering his reputation as a match-winner.

Finals Round 1: Heading into the finals against Brighton Union 1, Silva’s 6-wicket showcase was a masterclass, underlining his status as a premier bowler in the competition.

Combining the two halves, it’s clear that Malin Silva and Craig Short have been instrumental to Bentleigh Uniting 1’s fortunes. Silva, with his consistently sharp bowling, has etched his name as a fearsome competitor. Short, with his dependable batting and leadership, has steered his team through turbulent waters. Together, they’ve not only crafted match-winning performances but also etched a narrative of resilience and prowess that defines the spirit of the Longmuir Shield.
