08/11-10/11 Weekend Recap

Senior Women's

Great day yesterday! Firstly thank you to those who came down and supported us. This was by far the biggest crowd we’ve had so far and we really appreciate everyone getting behind us. We had our second home game of the season against Mackie. We won the toss and batted first and made 88 runs. The girls were consistent throughout with the bat having 4 players retiring, one of them being Abby stuber finding her confidence and showing her potential. We then came in to bowl and it was the greatest innings our girls have had yet - Kate Williamson taking a crucial 4 wickets keeping the game alive. Another shoutout to Charli Devries getting her first wicket. It was super impressive seeing how excited, determined and competitive our girls were keeping Mackie down to our score for the innings. Overall it was a great day and we are hungry for a win!

Rookies

Le Page won the toss and elected to bat first. The BUCC bowling was disciplined all round with some good fielding which resulted in BUCC limiting Le Page to 9/54.

The BUCC was batting was also disciplined all round with 5 of the 8 players all scoring in the teens and ending up on 3/142 with a lot of extras.

For the period in the season it was a good confidence building win especially for the first year Rookies.

U12A

Won the toss and elected to bat. Lost a couple of early ones, before Koby Lynch and especially James Norsworthy steadied the ship. James retired on a fantastic 32*. We chipped away, with skipper Will Russell and Ollie McArthur not out overnight, taking the side to 4 for 104

We did everything right with the ball and in the field, with the most impressive part being the energy and voice the whole group brought to the table. We have the upper hand, restricting Brighton Union to 4 for 71, with Norsworthy, Bourke and Duke the wicket takers, along with a super run out.

A great bounce back from our outing against Mackie/Bentleigh, but still plenty of work to do….

U14

Another testing day in the office with many of the players first time playing a two day match. Once again these boys persisted through the game with a smile on their face and determination. Well done to Leighton on his first game for the club and we look forward to next week to gain some more valuable experience out in the middle.

U16

The U16s put on an impressive bowling performance in their two-day match against McKinnon, keeping the opposition under constant pressure. Archer Jane was outstanding, taking four wickets, including a remarkable over where he claimed three scalps, disrupting McKinnon’s lineup and setting the tone for the innings. Noah Montgomery supported well with two early breakthroughs, dismissing the dangerous Tristan Tran and Shaun Kwong. Brodie Downes contributed effectively with two key wickets, keeping the runs down and forcing errors. Samuel Dimopoulos wrapped up the innings with a final wicket, leaving McKinnon’s batsmen struggling to build momentum. Overall, it was a strong showing by the Bentleigh Uniting bowlers, setting the team up nicely for day two.
