We have beaten bentleigh west , bentleigh ANA and any other bentleigh team in the SECA . We now have a full house beating Bentleigh turf team at bentleigh oval today.
In a. Tight game out boys pulled off a great victory today . Thanks to our loyal fans and our brilliant players.
Bentleigh has a one team standing .
On Sunday 23 rd November the two power clubs in the Bentleigh area met in the Cricket Victoria T 20 knockout Cup.
Bentleigh Turf club has dominated their VTCA division in recent years and they boast a NewZealand 1st class player as skipper as well as English and Sri Lankan imports and talented local players.
Bentleigh Uniting has dominated all froms of the game over the past 5 years in the SECA with skipper Glenn Lalor leading a well balanced team full of local kids with some talented new comers. The two clubs have never met before so all were keen to see how we compared.
Batting first we started well with Simon Richards and Micky DeIacovo against some very fast and accurate bowling, Babs DeIacovo broke the ice with a massive pull shot for six before Richo fell. A number of bats got starts but failed to post big scores with Babs scoring 23, Tommy Backman 20, Skipper Glenn Lalor 25 and young Trent Cody a fine 25 at the end. Our total on a difficult to score on pitch was 126.
Bentleigh was in trouble early with great bowling from Chubbsy Surridge and Ollie Oostermeyer had Bentleigh reeling at 2/17 then Trent Cody assisting to have them 5/68 with some great fielding supporting all bowlers. Bentleigh consolidated to 5/86 off 15 overs with their N.Z. gun still in and looking dangerous. Again fielding was the key with a smart run out via Shaggs Lalor, good ground fielding by all players then Babs DeIacovo added to his already impressive highlights reel to sprint 20 metres then dive forward to take a brilliant catch to dismiss the N.Z. skipper.
Bentleigh refused to lie down and some late sixes saw them needing 10 runs off the last 5 balls, it came down to 4 needed last ball to tie the game, Babs again the man with the ball in hand restricted them to two runs and a Uniting victory.
Great game by both clubs but only one Bentleigh team can proceed. Bentleigh Uniting.
