Victorian T 20 Champions

Sunday 22nd of February 2015 will go down in Uniting history. It is the day our boys, from Centenary Park, Brady Road East Bentleigh, with no pavilion and only a synthetic cricket pitch to our name,  became the Victorian T 20 Champions.

At Eastern oval Ballarat we lost the toss against Country champs Wendouree and bowled on a beautiful oval and a flat pitch.  (our pitch is always flat? so whats the deal?) All bowlers were diligent with line and length and the out fielding was brilliant, Tim Brisbane, Simon Richards, Damian Britt and Micky DeIacovo the  standouts.  They were 1/69 at one stage but never allowed to explode and finished 123.Wendouree are a very strong side and beat us on the MCG 3 years ago so we owed them one back, could we deliver?Micky DeIacovo exploded out of the blocks with 2 massive sixes and hard running with Tim Brisbane to see  us 40 runs of the first 4 overs. We then kept our foot on their throats as the tempo never abated. Brisbane 11, Tom Backman 16 worked perfectly with Babs DeIacovo as we easily chased down the total 3 down with over 5 overs to spare.  Babs a Man of the Match 75 not out off 42 balls woth 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Bentleigh Uniting Cricket Club crowned Victorian Champs.  To all you old past players , and our current Seniors and Juniors, be Proud. Our heroes,.   Glenn Lalor, Simon Surridge, Simon Richards, Damian Britt, Liam Hard, Luke Manders, Oliver OOstermeyer, Tom Backman, Trent Cody, Tim Brisbane, Micky DeIacovo and Michael Hargood.

Our other heroes was yet again the Maroon and Gold army who came by Bus, train and car to support their team. As Glenn said, you guys are very much part of the team.

In the 1800's they struck Gold in Ballarat, yesterday we added a spash of Maroon.
