LION PRIDE EASILY HUNTS DOWN BULLDOGS TO MOVE A GAME CLEAR ON TOP
Round Report - Round 6 week 2
Longmuir
Chasing West Bentleigh's 189, Dolly departed for a well-made duck, so that left Campbell and Hugo to get the scoreboard ticking over and they did - smashing the ball to all parts of Victory. Cambo 28 (4 fours) was disappointed not to cash in on his start, but his departure just made things worse for the Dogs. Shorty joined 'The Boss' and continued the pain, with both boys finishing not out in the seventies. This week looms as one of the matches of the SECA Longy season, with the boys hosting last year's runners-up, Brighton Union.
Quiney
Needing 280 to take the points against Kingston Heath, exciting youngsters Paddy Franklin and Maxy Millwood opened the batting and quickly got the score moving before Paddy perished for a classy 33. Then all hell broke loose, with Harry Zaia joining Maxy to post a brilliant 179-run partnership. Maxy, hitting his second ton of the season, caressed 16 boundaries in his total of 119, while Harry smashed nine fours and 3 sixes in his knock of 85. The empathic win puts the boys back in striking distance of the top four.
Thirds
Defending a total of 245 against Keysbourough, veteran Andrew Clarkson and boom youngster Zander Elk took the new pill and kept the visitors honest early. Clarky (2/75) made the first breakthrough, while Zander was threatening to break bones with his searing pace. Charlie Davidson picked up a wicket in his first over but undone his good work by having a sook after getting smashed for a few maximums. Fellow youngsters Ethan and Ben toiled hard without much luck. In the end, the visitors proved too good and had an easy win.
Fourths
Chasing CHAG's 183, Dave Bregazzi's mob got off to a great start thanks to Brissy (36) and Rohan (15). The skipper came in and did what the skipper does - score big runs! His magnificent 75, along with cameos from Travis and Rajiv Lal, saw the boys coast home with plenty of time to spare. The convincing win now sees them sit second on the ladder.
Fifths
Defending 229 against Chelt Park, it was Simon Carolan (2/32) who made the opening breakthrough, while fellow veteran Mick Britt (2/33) was also dangerous early. The elderly continued to wreak havoc, with skipper Guy snagging 3/21. In the end, the boys hung on to win by 21 runs, keeping them in fourth spot on the ladder.
