J Grade
The 11th Round of the J Grade cricket fixture saw Bentleigh Uniting 4 host Cheltenham Park 4 at the Duncan Mackinnon Reserve South Oval. Despite a formidable performance and an impressive fifty from Ryan Davidson, Bentleigh Uniting couldn’t secure a victory, with Cheltenham Park emerging victorious by scoring 121 runs.
Bentleigh Uniting opened the innings with a score of 118, with the middle order making a significant score contribution. Ryan Davidson stood out with a knock of 59 runs. However, the top order offered a minimal contribution with Joe Aloi and Guy Aloi contributing only 4 and 8 runs respectively. Meanwhile, Cheltenham Park’s James Burns managed to chip in with a wicket.
In Cheltenham Park’s reply innings, Joshua Bruneau led the charge with an essential fifty, while Mitchell Marnell chipped in with 22 runs. Despite a middle-order wobble, Cheltenham Park managed to surpass the target of 118 runs, registering an excellent win.
Bentleigh Uniting’s bowling efforts were led by Guy Aloi and Lewis Richardson who took two and three wickets respectively. However, their performances weren’t enough to stifle the batting prowess of Cheltenham Park. James Taranto and Marcus Taylor were dismissed early in their innings but couldn’t provide a major contribution.
Despite the loss, Bentleigh Uniting 4 showcased their potential, posing as a major threat to their opponents in forthcoming fixtures. On the other hand, Cheltenham Park 4 was victorious displaying their ability to rise to the occasion under intense pressure.
A standout performance by Ryan Davidson for Bentleigh Uniting, and a powerful batting showcase by Joshua Bruneau for Cheltenham Park were the highlights of this stellar match. The 11th Round of J Grade Cricket thus concluded with an exciting face-off and a win for Cheltenham Park 4.
U16
Bentleigh Uniting victorious in U16 B Central cricket match against Parkdale United, with Ned Cannington and Noah Montgomery’s excellent batting, Matthew Logan’s bowling contribution, and the game-winning performance of the bowling team during the closing innings.
The under 16 B Central cricket match took place at the Aspendale Gardens Sports Ground’s South Oval on 2nd February 2024 between Bentleigh Uniting and Parkdale United. Bentleigh Uniting emerged victorious.
Bentleigh Uniting started the innings posting a total of 120 while top order batsmen, Ned Cannington, remained not out on 41 runs and Noah Montgomery, also, remained unbeaten on 42. Matthew Logan contributed 7 runs while Joshua Pyman and Ryan Werny chipped in with 2 and 7 runs respectively. Despite a minor batting collapse due to wicket loss of Devan De Silva at a team score of 117 by Nash Jazownik, Bentleigh Uniting achieved a decent score.
Parkdale United tried to pull their weight, but the Bentleigh bowlers had answers for every challenge. Matthew Eales, Raphael White and Nash Jazownik each claimed a wicket for Parkdale United, but their efforts were in vain against Bentleigh Uniting’s determined batting lineup.
In the second innings, Parkdale United chased the target given by Bentleigh Uniting but fell short by 12 runs. Matthew Eales played well, scoring 44 runs, with Nash Jazownik supporting him athletically with 17 runs. Yet the excellent bowling performance of Bentleigh Uniting kept them from achieving their target. Matthew Logan, Lewis Richardson, and Tom D’Zilva each claimed a crucial wicket in the second innings that significantly influenced the outcome of the match.
The catching performance of Noah Montgomery and the economical bowling by Tom D’Zilva were also notable contributions to Bentleigh’s victory.
The players’ performance turned the match into a close encounter, but Bentleigh Uniting emerged victorious thanks to their complete team efforts and individual performances. The thrilling match ultimately showcased the promising talent residing in Bentleigh Uniting’s U16 B Central cricket team.
