Representative Cricket Wrap Up

During late 2014 and the early parts of 2015, we have had some very busy families who were involved in various Representative competitions. Bentleigh Uniting is very proud of our boys who are not only starring in junior cricket, but also making a name for themselves in seniors also. The future is looking very bright!

-—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Rory Drummond and Locky Still – Moorabbin CC Under 15 JC Craig hatch team

Locky made 82 runs through the tournament with a top score of 35n.o and also a 20n.o and a 19n.o. Two of these knocks were match-defining and helped get his side over the line. His leg-spin has really gone up a level this year, saving his best figures for the semi final vs Roxburgh Park, taking 4/1 off 3.4 overs!!

Rory was the sleeping giant through the tournament, making 66 runs, saving his best for the quarter final amassing 55 runs as the opener.

Moorabbin made the grand final vs Balwyn, but were humbled by what Doc describes as “a kid bowling 140 clicks” Better luck next time lads!

-—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Joe Aloi, Bryson Konoroth & Hugo Ferdinand – Malvern CC Under 15 JC Craig hatch team

Joey toiled hard at the top of the order, opening the batting in 3 of his matches, with a top score of 9. Joe also had 3 overs vs Ormond with tidy figures of 0/8 off 3.

Bryson’s all-round abilities were utilised throughout the tournament with knocks of 10, 24n.o and 11 batting at 7 or 8 while also bowling 12 overs and getting 2 runouts in a match vs Ormond.

Hugo “The Boss” Ferdinand lived up to his name in a thumping knock against the Kingston Saints with a very well made 97n.o. His tournament amassed 171 runs which also included a 63n.o vs Caulfield. Hugo also took 5 wickets with a very impressive spell against Kingston – 9 overs, 2 maidens, 2/12.

-—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Campbell James & Ishaan Chand – SECA Under 14’s SECA Green – Des Nolan Cup

Campbell (P-Sid) played 6 matches through the Des Nolan cup primarily as a bowler. Campbell bowled 45 overs and took an amazing 15 wickets @ 5.2. He saved his best for the finals, taking 5/11 against his fellow SECA Rep team – SECA Blue – in the semi final.

Ishaan (Ishy) is another player chosen as an all-rounder who will turn out to be a very good cricketer. Although the runs didn’t come for him this tournament, he had a good day vs Western Region, taking 2/21 off 5 & 1/5 off 3 vs Ringwood District.

Campbell and Ishy both represented SECA in a very exciting Grand Final, making just the 96 runs, but the match went to the last over with Eastern CA getting over the line by 4 wickets. Bad luck boys.

-—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Josh Bregazzi – SECA Under 12’s Mitchell Shield

Well, what can we say. The son of a BUCC Club Champion (Dave Bregazzi) dominated the Under 12 Rep Carnival. Selected as a bowler at the start of the season, Josh turned the team on its head and decided that he would let his talking be done with the willow instead of the pill. Amassing a very impressive 205 runs from 6 innings, including scores of 42, 40n.o & 38 – again saving his best for the Grand Final with a match defining 51n.o. Along with his team-mates, the SECA boys knocked off North West Metro defending their 188 – with Josh receiving the player of the match trophy. Josh also bowled very economically through the start of the tournament with his best figures coming against Box Hill Reporter District – 2/5 off 3 overs, 1 catch and a runout!

-—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Charlie Power – SECA Under 12’s Josh Browne Plate

Charlie and his Josh Browne mates made it a SECA Under 12’s 1,2 with his team routing North Metro CA, making 6/149 and then getting them all out for just 42 where Charlie bowled 4 overs, 2 maidens 1/3. Charlie offies snagged him 11 wickets @ a miserly 4.18. His best bowling though was clearly his 3/12 off 6 overs in the semi final.

Congratulations to both Josh and Charlie for their efforts in their Grand Final victories!

Special mention to one of our favourite sons who moved away from us – Harry Rhodes.

Harry represented Mornington Peninsula CA and made 52 runs through the Josh Browne Plate tournament with a best score of 34 vs Yarra Valley CA and in a twist of fate, had his wicket taken by our own Charlie Power when Mornington played SECA. We miss you Harry!

To all the Mums and Dads who drive their boys to training day-in, day-out along with all the other cricket that is put on your plate – especially over a hectic festive period – the club really appreciates your effort and we hope that your boys achievements don’t go unnoticed and that they serve to inspire other cricketers at our club to keep working hard at training and one day achieve their own successes.
