Round Six, Week One 2019/20

SPIN TWINS BAMBOOZLE BULLDOGS TO GIVE LION PRIDE UPPER HAND

Round Report - Round six week one

Longmuir

West Bentleigh won the toss at Victory Park and elected to bat but was quickly on the back when Hugo (2/32) sent stumps cartwheeling with the score on 18. The Bulldogs steadied for a while until Dolly (1/39) and Liam (1/25) got in on the act. With the hosts looking to accelerate - enter the dynamic duo, Malin and Buddhika. The pair quickly put the Dogs in the pound, claiming three wickets each. The boys are confident 189 is a very attainable total.

Quiney

The 'twos' were also asked to field at Centenary and it was Brucey who struck first in a very economical spell of 1/19 off eight overs. The boys toiled away against some unconventional batting, with Harry the best of them with 4/90. Lockie Still showed he's going to be a handful with a very probing spell of 0/33. The boys will need to bat well to chase down 279.

Thirds

The boys were sent in by Keysborough and Ethan and his old man gave the side a solid before 'Smoothie' departed. That brought Charlie to the crease and he looked in really good nick until Pete, fearing the future was about to make him redundant, shamelessly run out his perceived nemesis. Profanities filled the air, with Timmsy declaring the youngster was"torched". The Uniting faithful cheered when Pete was out a short time later. That brought the Voltaren brothers together, with Dirty and Dukey testing their relationship and hamstrings with a very energetic and timely partnership, until Dukey (37) was also "torched". Chris kept going and was unselfishly caught going the tonk on 95. Some lusty hitting from Andrew Clarkson (36) helped push the score to 275.

Fourths

CHAG won the toss and batted at Duncan McKinnon and were going well until Rob Aitken (2/62) made the breakthrough. Vinod also bowled impressively, taking 3/26. Then the Swanns took flight, with Josh (3/25) and Dave (2/14) helping restrict the visitors' total to just 183. Veteran swing kings Davo and Monty also helped put the breaks on. In return, Brissy and Rohan got us through to stumps at 0/22.

Fifths

Miscommunication also reigned in the 5ths with Simon Carolan unceremoniously and unrepentantly "torching" an in-form Simon Lucas on 36. Simple Simons. Carolan ignored the volley of richly deserved abuse directed at him and went on to slaughter the Cheltenham Park bowlers with a high octane 63 (10 fours and 1 six). Joe and Johnno struggled to overcome the sight of Prof's demise and both perished for a duck. Guy - needing to steady relationships and a crumbling middle-order - delivered a magnificent captain's innings of 42. The run-rate continued to lift when personal training fanatics Brucey (29) and Britty (24) joined forces, with their running between the wickets a feature of their very important partnership. 229 will take some chasing.
